The Oklahoma City Memorial Foundation just announced that they are postponing the 2021 Marathon Fundraiser until October oppose to it typical April date by issuing the following statement on their website

“Thank you to all who participated in the virtual 20th Annual Memorial Marathon. We loved seeing how everyone embraced our virtual race!

While the virtual run was fun, we want to run TOGETHER in 2021! So, we are postponing the 2021 Memorial Marathon to the weekend of October 2-3. If delaying the race a few months allows us to run together on one weekend, we are willing to wait.

To best distance runners due to the restrictions of COVID-19, the Half Marathon, the 5K and the Kids Marathon will be run Saturday October 2. The Marathon and Relay will run on Sunday, October 3rd. The Kids Marathon will also be run in person the on October 2. We will also host the Expo in the unbelievable new Oklahoma City Convention Center on the east side of Scissortail Park which opens early 2021! Race officials are still considering including a bike race – more details to come.

This decision is based on recommendations from the Memorial’s Come Back Team of community leaders, medical professionals, emergency management, first responders, and in consultation with other major marathons.

“While the virtual race exceeded our expectations this year, we realize how meaningful it is to all be together in person for the #RUNtoREMEMBER,” said Kari Watkins, Race Director. “This is not just another marathon, this is one of Oklahoma City’s signature events that brings our whole community together.””
