Love and Life – Ezra and Adriene Davis – Valentine’s Day Feature
Love and life go hand in hand, and in the Davis’ case, love made life so much sweeter. Ezra and Adriene Davis, Lawton natives, celebrated Valentines Day with us this year by sharing their beautiful story.
Ezra, 31 at the time, met Adriene after she turned 18. “She’s a youngster that I couldn’t chase away,” he chuckled. Once their romance struck up, they traveled together during Ezra’s time in the military. After 20 years of service, Ezra retired from the military and they realized they needed things to keep themselves busy.
“I’ve got a pool league,” Ezra told us. With 500-600 players to manage, it’s no wonder he is constantly on the go. “Yeah, it keeps me busy; she said [though] ‘it’s not what I want to do.’ She wanted to feed the homeless.” And the start of the local feeding shelter Hungry Hearts Feeding Ministry began, with Adriene, Ezra and their daughter working as the main employees.
Keeping Love Alive
Over the years, it can be difficult to stay in love with the person you’ve married; one key ingredient the Davis’ say that helps keep that love alive is learning to miss the person you’re spending your life with. “We spend enough time together to still not only love each other, but be in love with each other,” Adriene told us, “I can honestly say that I don’t just love my husband, but I’m still in love with him.”
When asked what their favorite things about one another are, we had a hard time getting just one answer from them both. “She’s dependable,” Ezra told us. “When I need something, if I don’t even ask, she gets it done.” Through teary eyes, he explained that Adriene made him feel like a ‘king on the throne.’
Adriene laughed as she said her favorite things about Ezra were “the sense of humor he thinks he has.” After talking a little more about sentimental value in their lives, she explained that her most favorite thing about her husband is his hugs.
