On Wed. February 24, 2021 at 11:30a.m., the United Service Organizations (USO) invited volunteer Marine soldiers to serve hot, homemade chili and cornbread to families and friends of those who serve at Lawton/Ft. Sill. The soldiers spent the afternoon giving back to those who support our troops the most.

Normally, the Lawton/Ft. Sill’s Army volunteers their time for the USO events held frequently on post; however, because Army troops were unable to come last minute to the lunch, the United States Marines sent some of their troops that were already stationed at Ft. Sill for artillery training to make and serve the food to the community.

THE VOLUNTEERS OF FT. SILL

We had the chance to speak with one of the volunteers at Fueling the Forces, PFC Ceasar Luna, who originally came from Colorado. PFC Luna joined the Marines to make a difference in the lives around him and to leave a positive impact in the world. He was one of the eager volunteers to make the event happen and to put a smile on the faces of those who came. PFC Luna and three other Marines stood outside of the USO building on post to serve those who chose to drive up and receive their food. Some families chose to eat their food inside, where they were welcomed with open arms and a warm place to rest.
