Jones Seed Company
Jones Seed Company – Lawton, Oklahoma’s Hidden Gem
It’s honestly not hard to miss, thousands of people drive right passed it every day in Lawton, Oklahoma. One of the tallest buildings on East Gore Boulevard reads the name “Jones Seed.” That same building has still been standing, running and producing quality bird seed since 1994. The business may not have started this large, but it has steadily grown to make 500 products with formulas to make 1,600 total. Jones Seed Company has grown large enough to attract attention from one of the most well-known, major animal-food producing companies in America: Purina. Jones Seed has partnered with Purina to become the only business in the country that makes 2 special hen treat products sold to 48 states in the U.S.
How Jones Seed Company Started
Darrell Jones, owner and founder of Jones Seed Company, started their business in trash cans – literally. Darrell explains that he and his wife both worked as teachers at McArthur Schools in Lawton. In order to make supplemental income, they experimented mixing different seed formulas for parakeets in trash cans. Over time, their passion for “making the process quicker” and “providing transparency for the customer” encouraged Darrell to begin producing seed blends full-time.
Co-Partnership With Purina
Because of the relationship between Purina and Jones Seed Company, Darrell Jones now owns the only business in the country responsible for something special. Purina designed 2 special “hen treat” blends that is only made at the Jones Seed mill and is currently sold to 48 states in America.
